خُفافٌKhufaf ماتَزالُyou still تَجُرُّyou drag ذَيلاًa hem
إِلىtoward الأَمرِthe course المُفارِقِdeparting لِلرَشادِfrom sound judgment
Khufaf, you keep dragging your hem
A shame that still drags its tail
toward a course that departs from sound judgment.
To wrong that parts from what is right,
إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle عاتَبَتكَreproached you بَنوthe sons of سُلَيمٍSulaym
ثَنَيتَyou responded لَهُمto them بِداهِيَةٍwith a calamity نَآدِgrievous
Whenever the sons of Sulaym reproach you,
If Sulaym's sons reproach you, turn
you answer them with a grievous calamity.
A deaf ear though they are not light.
وَقَدand indeed عَلِمَknew المَعاشِرُthe clans مِنof سُلَيمٍSulaym

بِأَنّيthat I am فيهِمُamong them حَسَنُgenerous الأَياديbenefactions
And the clans of Sulaym know full well
For Sulaym knows that I've been fair
that I am generous in my favors among them.
In all my dealings with their band.
فَأَورِدso lead to water ياO خُفافُKhufaf فَقَدfor indeed بُليتُمyou have been afflicted
بَنيsons of عَوفٍAwf بِحَيَّةِwith a serpent بَطنِthe bed of وادِa valley
So lead them to water, Khufaf, for you have been afflicted,
So, Shame, attack! For I am vexed
sons of Awf, with a serpent in a valley's bed.
With Bani Auf's offensive stand.
