Khufaf, have you not seen how what lies between us

blazes more fiercely when it is kindled?

Have you not seen that we gave our ancestral wealth

to those who ask, and never act treacherously?

For we are charged with more than

other people are charged with, if you but knew.

    Ours are virtues not unknown,

passed down from elder to elder.

And horses surge forward with armored riders,

slaughtered in battle's terror or hamstrung.

    On them ride proven horsemen,

like jinn whose dwellings are in Abqar.

And a surging host, the color of the stars,

with neither unarmed nor unhelmeted men in it.

And bright, full-length coats of linked mail,

    heirlooms of what Himyar bequeathed.

For the tribe well knows, when the battle cry sounds,

that the noblewoman is sheltered by me.

And the tribe well knows, when wagers are laid,

that I myself am the proud one who wagers.

And the tribe well knows, when people ask,

that I give freely and am asked to rain down bounty.

So how can you reproach me for boasting?

And here I am—this is the unacknowledged one.
