إِن تَلقَني تَلقَ لَيثاً في عَرينَتِهِ
مِنfrom among أُسدِlions خَفّانَKhaffan فيin أَرساغِهِhis wrist joints فَدَعُcrookedness
مِن أُسدِ خَفّانَ في أَرساغِهِ فَدَعُ
If you meet me, you meet a lion in his lair,
If you meet a lion in his den,
One of Khaffan’s lions, with crooked wrist joints.
An attacking lion in his lair, then let him be,
لاnot يَبرَحُabandons الدَهرَever صَيداًprey قَدalready تَقَنَّصَهُhe hunted it down
لا يَبرَحُ الدَهرَ صَيداً قَد تَقَنَّصَهُ
مِنَfrom among الرِجالِthe men عَلىupon أَشداقِهِhis jaws القَمَعُthe blue flies
مِنَ الرِجالِ عَلى أَشداقِهِ القَمَعُ
He never abandons prey he has hunted down,
He will never depart his prey, which he has stalked
From among men, with blue flies upon his jaws.
Among men in their heavy armor.
