1. He sleeps a wolf on the hillside and howls
Rebellious in his exile, free

2. If he hunts, he searches for a companion
And grieves when he cannot find one

3. He searches the road for a poor man
If he doesn't find one... he feeds the road!

4. And summed up his life in poetry and poverty
Madness added to them a shine

5. He knows this world is ungrateful
When did the poor ever find her a friend?!

6. He secluded himself where the deserts became
Cracks in the sand like cracks in his blood

7. He drinks her brackish water proudly
Quenching a thirst, deeming it sweet

8. He refused to demand rights from her
And chose to wrongfully seize rights from her

9. If horses race in a land
His steed is the fastest among them

10. If he sings of rain one day
We smell lightning in his dawns

11. And if he sings his night visitors we rejoice
And love them so we can taste

12. Only the soil clinging to him quenches his heart's thirst
If it has been his companion

13. He rebelled so songs would extend to him
Their farthest branches and veins

14. Poets are the most melodious of people
Yet have the hardest road

15. They are like palm trees, highest in branches
Yet sweetest in fruit from pains

16. Do you think if he returned again... would he find
Any distinction in the world if he returned?

17. The tribes remain in their blindness
And the enslaved among them remain enslaved

18. He kept screaming, "World, wake up!"
And kept shaking her until she awoke

19. He smiled as he melted away, reassured
And ignited a blaze in our conscience
