1. Stand with me in the fertile valley,
Let us weep for the ruined abodes,

2. Perhaps we will attain deliverance,
And one day I will attain my wish.

3. I am the one with youth and passion,
And I am the one with prolonged sorrow.

4. My early beloved ones are gone,
They lie in the earth as lions.

5. And when the darkness falls,
They prostrate to their Exalted Lord.

6. Of every white-faced noble one,
Whose love thrilled the hills and dunes,

7. His words were honored,
Yet never matched by deeds one day.

8. They are gone but I do not forget them,
At every dawn or nightfall.

9. Except when I recall what
Umayyah did to the martyred one,

10. The grandson of the Chosen Prophet,
And son of the Pure and Chaste.

11. Thrown upon the hot ground,
Rolled in the sand,

12. My craving for the chick of Mohammad,
My craving for the one with eternal glory.

13. I crave for him as he lies in the wilderness,
Mutilated and dismembered.

14. I sacrifice myself for him in the dust,
Oh earth, sway!

15. By my father whose white hair
Was dyed by his blood on the momentous day.

16. By the beloved of God and the one who guides,
Mohammad the Messenger.

17. They left him abandoned for three days,
Without a shroud or washing,

18. Except for blood stains from his wounds,
The outpouring of the best outpouring.

19. By my father I redeem his noble soul,
Raised high upon a lengthy lance.

20. Reciting the Book upon the lances -
My sacrifice for the peerless one.

21. By my father I redeem Ahmad’s daughters,
Bereft of any guardian.

22. Taken captive and imprisoned by villains,
In the hands of the ignorant.

23. Mounted atop horses and camels,
Upon rugged beasts with no gentleness.

24. Presented as gifts to the people of Umayyah,
And Ziyad the despicable ignoramus.

25. Wonders that they are gifted when they are
The daughters of Fatima the Chaste.

26. And the daughters of Ahmad and the Successor -
Oh land, sway for their sake!

27. My craving for them as captives,
Complaining to the Almighty Lord.

28. I mean Ali son of Hussein,
The Caliph of God, the Majestic.

29. I sacrifice myself for him and his women,
Crying with prolonged wailing,

30. And calling upon Al-Mukhtar, saying:
"O grandfather, O best guardian!"

31. "O grandfather, they killed Hussein,
And trampled him with horses."

32. For us, Hussein was like rain
Whenever clouds gathered but did not pour.

33. Instead of beneficial rain,
He was bounty for the farmers.

34. O grandfather, how noble he was!
For us in Karbala, a martyr.

35. On a day with no supporters for us,
An ominous day.

36. The Umayyads left nothing for us in Karbala,
They killed our children,

37. And sought to fight against the Majestic.
As if they did not recognize us as the best tribe!

38. O grandfather, his supporters
In Karbala upon the hills.

39. Whether stabbed, wounded, or piled in mounds,
On the plains they have no equal.

40. As if they were the full moons of Sa'd,
Approaching their setting.

41. Supporters of the religion of God - I sacrifice myself for them!
And supporters of the Messenger.

42. Supporters of the chick of Mohammad,
Of Hasan and supporters of the Chaste.

43. Supporters of our Master Hussein,
And the proof of God, the Majestic.

44. My craving for them - they were killed and each
Was scorched by the heat of flames.

45. O family of Ahmad, you are
The best guide for your servants.

46. You are my hopes from the predicaments,
And upon you lies the burden of the provider.

47. I praise you at my morn,
O my guides, along with my evening.

48. So accept what I have said,
For in you are my deeds and words.

49. May the Lord of Majesty bless you,
And praise from the Majestic suffices you.
