1. You have bestowed favors, justice, and righteousness
Rendering us incapable of fulfilling the duty of praise and thanks

2. And you have set the best example among people
Winning the highest praise as well as the best mention

3. And when you undertook reform, eschewing desires
You inscribed your noble name on the page of time

4. And perpetuated your memory in history when
Your virtues rose high and your qualities were adorned with good tidings

5. You proclaimed views sharper than an Indian sword
And penetrating thoughts superior to spearheads

6. And you uttered words whose beauty brings together
The wolf in the desert and the fish in the sea

7. You united hearts long divided
And separated the group of tyranny, injustice and betrayal

8. You destroyed absolutism and desire
Liberating the thoughts of worshippers from captivity

9. And you clarified the paths of truth after their ambiguity
And brought out the face of justice shining like the full moon

10. And you organized the affairs of the military, what a policy!
And you came in political affairs with command

11. And in serving the nations you girded up your loins
And walked with those who strive for it

12. And you sensed the comfort of the public with a
Private comfort, as that is the trait of the free

13. I looked upon things with the eye of a knowledgeable man
Thereby making use of a penetrating mind

14. So I stopped each at its defined duty
And did not give Zayd what 'Amr deserved

15. It is incumbent upon us and all people
To repay your blessings with thanks

16. To the extent possible, not fully due
For that will not fade until the end of time
