1. My heart is ever inclined to union with you,
Why should the sword of estrangement be unsheathed against me?

2. Love has decreed my distress and humiliation for you,
And to humble oneself for the beautiful is beautiful.

3. So have mercy on the love of a sick man who has none
But you, moon, even if you turn from me without replacement.

4. I have made my soul dependent on you forever,
And the tears from my eyes flow freely.

5. And my life passes in passion for you,
While patience fails me, and longing guides me.

6. Leave off blaming me, critic, for my love of him -
Foolishness! The words of the wise are redundant.

7. Never will I abandon the love that nourishes me -
No! Nor will I ever incline to another.

8. How leave it when I see his love as a duty
Like praise of one whose merit is sublime?

9. The full moon of loyalty, magnified in rank,
Breast of glories, half of hope.

10. A noble hero, peerless in excellence,
My friend, deviating not from the badge of perfection!

11. If one claims in ignorance another equal to him
In the two worlds, his words are but delusion.

12. His exalted qualities affirm that he
Is uniquely virtuous, a compendium of merits.

13. So if I would compose a poem in praise of his station,
Recite to me his attributes, and I will speak.

14. Of penetrating wisdom and proven thought,
Like the radiant lightning flash of eloquence refined.

15. If he brandishes his sword among mankind,
Then ignorance, his greatest army, will be vanquished.

16. Or if he aims one day to establish truths by his reasoning,
Then none will equal his words in acceptance.

17. O source of glories! O you, whose likes
In loftiness, none within creation can match!

18. Give me the glad tidings of a rank you have attained
Through perfect majesty, from which you never swerve!

19. After congratulating you on it, your renown
Will remain, unaffected by the passage of time.

20. It is through your absence from us that we suffer
Perplexity among mankind, bewildered.

21. To whom after you will our rights be entrusted?
By whom will success, then, wander about?

22. By God, always I grieve for your departure,
While my heart for joy is crippled.

23. But my love of advancement prevails,
And so my patience, O Great One, is beautiful.

24. I still ascend the ranks of happiness,
Scaling the throne of exaltation, beneath your banner.

25. No full moon has risen or perfect star
Unless my heart inclines toward union with you.
