1. To you, leader of the people, I direct my hope -
You are the most esteemed of men in merit and rank.

2. The best of them in character, righteousness and compassion -
And in you lie the hopes of all that will not go to waste.

3. When times grow tight for a young man,
You comfort the gentlest heart among men and make it vast.

4. You brought life to the meadows of glory after a time had passed -
An era, while the meadows of glory before you were desolate.

5. It is no wonder that your goodness overflows for all -
For you are without doubt a wellspring of good things.

6. How many needs of one such as I you have fulfilled -
And that, my lord, is no mere affectation from you.

7. You still take care to do good for those who come seeking -
And the highest of your doors remains open for those who rush to you.

8. I hope that you will swiftly fulfill this need of mine -
For the best of kindness is that which comes most swift.
