1. He approached with a goblet stained red,
So I said - fires have collided!

2. With the radiance of a full moon is his beauty unveiled,
And with the posture of a tender branch is he dignified.

3. He generously smiled with lips above a mouth,
Like rosebuds above meadows flowering.

4. A crescent has tilted in the horizons of my heart,
A gazelle has glanced - his Turkish eyes entranced me!

5. Shall I conceal my love as my tears speak plainly?
Of his love they translate more fluently!

6. How much I have bound my heart to his passion,
And how my eyes for him do flow constantly!

7. My weary heart flies to him -
No wonder, for he is a blossoming branch!

8. For none equal him among the youths,
And for love I have no second but him!

9. I gathered roses from his cheeks, yet
Hisglance disciplines even the beautiful!

10. He promised to return at dusk - and who
Among men or immortals can compare?

11. He turned away indifferently while my tears
From their lids overflowed when he abandoned me!

12. His estrangement taught me patience, but still
It was bitter when he was harsh to me!

13. His separation asked me when it asked me,
Without cause he was hard or he was harsh to me!

14. And my love was ignited when he called me -
His passion called me, oh what calling that was!

15. He reproached me in passion for not responding,
While he denied me and was unfair to me!

16. Take care, O slender of frame - I intend
To be content - so be kind and give me assurance!

17. For I have let flow from my eyes a river,
And by your right, still they question!

18. I think that when you settled the heat of my soul,
You were startled, though you are of the houris!

19. So be kind and grant me acceptance,
And do not let your answer be “I will not see you!”

20. How harsh you are, O gazelle! You do not pity
One whose eyelids and tongue are occupied!

21. So with my tears I call on him, and with
The praise of Muhammad, the sage of all time!

22. The bestower of favors, my father Khadhir,
The refined, pure of faith, steadfast of soul!

23. He is the blossoming garden, and what bliss
In his noble dwellings, and what celebrations!

24. A youth like the sun whose brilliance
Is concealed from none, with no setting!

25. So O sea of knowledge, you are the eminent,
Unique in your eloquence and meaning!

26. Acknowledge the merits I have gathered,
All people, both near and far!

27. You have built for the most high sanctuaries,
With no second but you, O unique one of time!

28. Rhyme and meter have yielded themselves to you,
And given you full command of their reins!

29. You have taken paths which none have attained
Besides you, with the agility of tongue!

30. You have acquired knowledge refined and precise,
Thus you are unmatched in this age!

31. So live in honor and fortune, O Saad,
And last, O meadow, in might and distinction!

32. And hold fast, as long as you live, to merit,
And seek the highest standing among the elite!

33. And safeguard the fruits of thought as a virgin,
Adorned with wreaths and clusters of flowers!

34. Cultured of aims and meaning, refined of form and composition -
For if you accept her, then my purpose is fully attained, O ultimate of desires!
