1. I asked Him whose provision is endless
And whose door is not barred to petitioners

2. That He not leave me begging of people
The needs of strangers, in humiliation

3. It is hard for my soul to pursue a purpose
By which I rise or gain justice thereby

4. Oh, the misery of a matter whose outcome
Is rejected by one who broke no pact or bond

5. A man takes pleasure in people's neediness
In distress, if he says in refusal, "Nay!"

6. He seems gleeful if fortunes cast others
To him, not hiding his scorn for visitors

7. Like one who set traps for lions; if they
Fall in, their prey becomes easy for the betrayer

8. Oh Lord, spare us the humiliation of a need
Got with face-water in hardship, not plenty

9. For You are Bounty itself; no asker has erred
Calling You, who rewards a servant fitly

10. People's humiliation is glory for God
Their disgrace for others - oh, their misery!
