1. A day came with the breeze of the wind, bearing good tidings
Blessed with the reins of the kingdom, bound tight

2. The festival which kings used to revere
With utmost reverence and glorification

3. Yemen, its bird is auspicious, and its fortune is rising
Portending intimacy and astrology

4. Your wellbeing has come, and people have won through it
A great universal and special victory

5. After exhaustion had hanged itself by the neck
And the embers of fear were stoked

6. The health of the prince - may God protect him from all harm -
Formed a cloud of sorrows, piled up

7. There was no soul or body left on earth
That was not branded by your fever

8. Your fever which soured pleasures, so they changed
From bitterness into our potions and torment

9. Until we thought the breeze itself had become heated air
Scorching hearts, and shade itself feverish

10. You distributed your beauty among all people
So your absence was shared out among people

11. People's hearts despaired from anguish
Sighs of distress unlocking the fetters

12. God sufficed for what they feared and were wary of
So the despondent became hopeful again

13. After the face of life had turned yellow, when it saw
The cheek of joy slapped by the palm of sorrow

14. And generosity came galloping when
The tears of virtues and kindness were brewed

15. The world was uneasy because of your illness
And Islam was gloomy because of you

16. Glory to Him who dispelled the afflictions and relieved them
After adversity had been determined decisively

17. So we praise God in renewing His blessing
With praise that completes the renewal

18. This is the prince, the son of the ever-increasing Yazid
Whose traces and hands filled the horizons

19. And people had known the extent of his conduct
Which increased their compassion for him

20. O protection of the religion, world and its beauty
You remain protected from the blows of fate

21. How can people not all desire
The life of one who has killed tyranny and blame

22. The justice and kindness of the prince
Have turned the times away from the helpless, accused

23. Do not consider yourself mortal, you who are unique
Since your likeness in this age is non-existent

24. Basra became a refuge, enriched through you
And its deprived became endowed

25. I knew it as the land of discord, but you
Made it a land of accord

26. May God increase your authority and power
And humiliate the nose of your enemy

27. You made your beauty an obligation from you
So love of you became obligatory and destined

28. You have renowned works in the world
That almost speak in gratitude

29. You have removed the injustice from every wronged one
So your possession became wronged

30. When you ruled the world and its splendor
You made your religion rule your world

31. You came to serve fear of God diligently
So you became served with success and prosperity

32. People inhale your sweet scent whenever you are mentioned
As if their hearings have become gills

33. O you, if the deprived sees your rising
Then that deprived will not be seen deprived

34. Your pillar remains steadfast as you build it up
While the pillar of those who opposed you is demolished

35. Whoever desires ill towards you will not attain his desire
Until he sees the blacks in their colors as Romans

36. I conceal needs that weigh heavily upon me
And the sickness weighed is a concealed sickness

37. What can the servant do in remembering his master
After neglecting what was known?

38. While I hope to increase in supererogation
I am prevented from what was customary

39. Death is a more beautiful dwelling for man
Than being seen bridled by humiliation

40. Why did the writer delay fulfilling my equipment
And how can delay not make advance?

41. This, although his approved way
In private and public is reform and correction

42. His severity has disciplined him with correction
And advice increased his cultivation and composure

43. One cannot blame a young man who takes precautions advisably
A young man's precaution in advice is not blameworthy

44. But I see waiting is a disease in its prolonging
And with care the disease is precisely diagnosed

45. Is there anything other than the reward of a good or bad deed
That remains recorded in the scriptures?

46. No good in agreeable words whose flavor
When tested, is poisonous

47. There must be an utterance from the sincere, uttering it
Otherwise the heart would be suppressed
