1. My dear, neither fate nor burning coals can harm you,
I secluded myself but for modesty and concealment,

2. Perhaps I may find intimacy in the seclusion of withdrawal,
Just as pearls are obtained in the depths of the sea.

3. I want my stance to be hidden from people,
So I hid it, though how can stances hide with the full moon?

4. When I saw longing spurring its horses
To reveal passion, I made my chest its racecourse.

5. My gaze turned away from you for a glance of your gaze, so it turned away-
Just as wine's veil is torn by wine.

6. And the basil of passion becomes dew when we meet
From that amorous glance, refreshing wishes.

7. You look upon my state-that is the wish of desires-
Above wishes, if only you would look into my affairs!

8. I forgave my beloved if he shunned me,
For my sins against him were many, despite excuses.

9. I was afflicted with a sin atop my sin due to my misery,
And how the painful fracture pains the fracture!

10. I am but like one whose bone was broken,
So when it mended it bent with a crooked mending.

11. I wronged one who never ceased benefiting me,
So I deserve to be pelted from behind with stones.

12. Does he know my worth yet I am ignorant of his worth?
Beyond it I know not the value of the Merciful.

13. It was forbidden, my coming to him
With that which destroys me, though the sun and moon destroy me.

14. Oh, the night I attained but was deprived of!
I was like the bereft who saw the Night of Power.

15. Oh, the bounty missed, and oh, the tribulation come!
So death for loss, and murder in unbelief.

16. Father of Hasan , what can be my trick and stratagem?
Advise me, for I have become lost in my affairs.

17. Shall I be patient with estrangement, or seek approval?
Alas, it is vain that she be pleased, and vain that I show patience!
