1. Flirting with his love became a reproach,
For his love mixes bliss with torment.

2. No harm to one loyal in love's religion
Seeking his contentment though loyalty is reward.

3. He broke pacts and untied bonds of oaths
After, when union tortured and joyed.

4. I trusted him, so he betrayed me
From my refuge—thus, those trusted bring harm.

5. When I would reproach him for a crime,
He made sulking his response to reproach.

6. The confusions of whispers were always a trick for me
Until I trusted dogs with a gazelle.

7. Silence is comfort and protection
For the free, if silence brought response.

8. Of wonders: my joints melt for one
Whose soul, if it touched me, would melt.

9. A friend who punishes me because I'm good—
Have you seen good bring punishment?

10. I tried oaths to him and found them
Lies, so I grew doubtful of his truths.

11. Leave off dreaming for youths—it is
Forbidden for gray hair to dream.

12. And praise an eloquent, excellent writer
Who adorns rulers and honors scribes.

13. O Ahmand ibn Ali, builder of heights
And ready for each lofty affair.

14. To you my hopes incline—their means
And glory generated by you, the means.

15. To you doors of hope opened wide,
So open to them a door of care.

16. Set loose winds of hopes for an aspirant;
Perhaps they will stir clouds of success.

17. Take steps along the path—it will clothe you
In garments of praise for your good.

18. And know with certainty that none stands
As intercessor unless the noble stand.

19. This prophet, ennobled by interceding
For people when they own no discourse.

20. By his words—may his God pray on him—
And enough that the prophet spoke right.

21. Yes, you are owed by the needy among you,
And God made thankfulness for it obligatory.

22. When God loves a servant among you
He facilitates success as reward.

23. And enough that the manners of the blessed are exemplars
And guidance for those who choose manners.

24. So understand your guidance though not understood—
The crafts possess necks of their practitioners.

25. And when creations vary in their necks
Their virtues have pedigrees.

26. And God brought you endowed with gifts
Since you are excellent at thanking the Giver.

27. So you opened a generous soul to needs
That if parceled would be vast lands.

28. And you have gentle natures—if they were
Water, they would be kings' drafts.

29. And an enlightened talent—if apportioned
It would be meteors of intellect.

30. And covenants you keep that spring fountains—
Since the promises of others are mirage.

31. And generosities you followed as if
Reading lessons to mankind from a script.

32. And God knows where He places merit—
And that suffices challengers their response.

33. This is an emulable saying of your deeds—
Hear it, not vain nor lying.

34. Your deeds distinguish themselves among the deeds of creation
As piety, leaving all else but dust.

35. Take it, O Abul Hussein, a bride
Brought to you, lofty-breasted youths.

36. When movements of her cheek show
The understandings of men fear her.

37. Hearing her, for the excellent arrangement,
One thinks I scattered pearls for listeners.

38. And reciting her, for the gentle phrasing,
One thinks I presented lines beloved would please.

39. Still you have spread hands in grace
And authority, to be sought and feared.
