1. Your nature, so accept it and abandon affectation

13. In betrayal there is vexation, and in separation tribulation
And the betrayer has doubled that on me

Toward us, but that expectation defaulted

There is no excuse for acceptance to lag

17. How lonesome for friends when they part
After they had become acquainted

More than my parents, and more compassionate

19. How lovely was our intimacy and conversation
On nights when fate allowed us union

20. That union was not union, for its goodness
But a flash that seized my mind

21. You were affectionate, as if you followed
The course of the soul, rather you were more gentle

22. If you take another in my place, then I
Have changed after joy into yearning

23. Peace be upon the world, if I do not find
A loving, sincere friend with fairness
