1. By my father you are, o son of Wahb, and my mother,
And my maternal uncles from Tayy and my paternal uncles,
2. When the clouds passed by us, they showed us
Morals from you that are not blamable,
3. Your noble deed was envied over excellence
So the features frowned with clouds,
4. You inclined away from me to someone else
In a speech like well-composed jewels,
5. Then you corresponded with me with your delightful cups,
Urging the drinking companion like the cup of a drinking companion,
6. And if you hide from me behind a veil
Then it is as if I am in India or Rome,
7. I am not pleased with the approach of substitutes,
So accept from me the proximity of the son of the Generous.
