1. Discord in love after concord
And going astray after return

2. Your tears have shown you on the day you turned away
Joys beyond the tears

3. Passions filling the eyelids in their passing
Burning in the heart filling the ribs

4. If you spend the night calling on conscience then I have
A lasting grief from the eve of parting

5. A separation that left no beautiful sight for a lover’s eye
Other than the rugged land beyond the meadows

6. It was a life of wandering
Of change or separation from all

7. How often it seemed a mirage
Like the expected spring

8. And a journey that the cheek follows until
It splits the night from the whiteness of dawn

9. Like rain in the meadows thought to be
Brooks rippling through the meadows

10. He brought us Muhammad so we praised
The beauty of that seen and heard

11. In his verdant side and noble character
The shooting rays and ample space

12. A man who ransoms and gives plenty
Of gifts from his gathered riches

13. Every day making new glory
With a wondrous deed of generosity

14. A knowledge untouched by darkness of ignorance
Like the sun at dawn

15. A hand that generosity always fells
And opinion in discourse always topples

16. He slept exposed yet protected
Behind a barrier of sublime generosity

17. When he raced horses for glory
Lightning behind was not as swift

18. And when he extended his palm he grasped
The far end of that distant towering palm

19. A model for the friend brought near him
From a lofty place in the Nile

20. When a noble does not humble himself
To the lowly then he is the essence of base

21. O Abu Ja'far I have been deprived of favor
Where you are neither my intercessor nor advocate

22. You upheld me and many were the days
Of my humiliation among the vile

23. You did not debase me when time debased me
Only the debased are further debased

24. And men who opposed your sublime traits
And did not soften from their coats of mail

25. Though autumn nights are green
Spring nights have enticed us from them
