1. I lost count of the grinding stones of Abdul Rahim
And his spacious daughter's tent poles

2. What veil remains in the curtain
When a knee knocks against a knee

3. Does the canopy of ebony veil itself
When the youth are infatuated with the youth

4. When the cupbearers carried the goblets
In rounds among the people, or chosen ones

5. A warrior on a tender foot
And a fatal fingernail still moist

6. If the night pulls its train
You see them, a difficulty after difficulty

7. Neither your presence has any awe
Nor your watcher any vigilance

8. Witnesses that did not please Shulakh
Nor the son of Sha'ub nor Kibbah

9. So how can one who has seen
Your drunkenness in poverty and love

10. And your eating from the sustenance of the imprisoned
And your wearing the looted clothes of Kaaba
