1. You roam restless on a white horse
And rise at dawn on a gray one
١. تَروحُ رَواحاً عَلى أَبلَقٍ
وَتَغدو غُدُوّاً عَلى أَشهَبِ
2. People shy from your assembly
From a fruitful gathering to one more fruitful
٢. يَخِفُّ بِكَ الناسُ مِن مَجلِسٍ
خَصيبٍ إِلى مَجلِسٍ مُخصِبِ
3. You revel in the poems of valor
And revel in the garb of the Maghreb
٣. وَتَرفُلُ في مَلحَماتِ العِرا
قِ وَتَرفُلُ في حُلَلِ المَغرِبِ
4. You delight in pleasant foods
And drink the best drinks
٤. وَتَلتَذُّ مِن طَيِّباتِ الطَعا
مِ وَتَشرَبُ مِن جَيِّدِ المَشرِبِ
5. If you wish, you hear singing
If you wish, you hear a lute
٥. وَتَسمَعُ إِن شِئتَ مِن قَينَةٍ
وَإِن شِئتَ تَسمَعُ مِن مُطرِبِ
6. And I come to you in a state
I go in it without gain
٦. وَأَغدو إِلَيكَ عَلى حالَةٍ
أَروحُ عَلَيها بِلا مَكسَبِ
7. I thank my mother if unkempt
And mother of the negligent, blame me
٧. وَأَشكُرُ أُمّي إِذا قَحبَةٌ
وَأُمُّ المُقَصِّرِ إِن شِئتَ بي
