1. The one I loved has spurned me after ardour
And then the bird of fortune took its flight

١. لَجَّ مَن قَد هَوَيتُهُ في الصُدودِ
وَجَرى بَعدَ ذاكَ طَيرُ السُعودِ

2. God has decreed that I should melt and waste
And wasting comes on everythingbrand-new

٢. وَقَضى اللَهُ أَن أَذوبَ وَأَبلى
وَالبَلى مِن وَراءِ كُلِّ جَديدِ

3. In youth the fancy for the fair is linked
To sprightliness; and far unlike is near

٣. وَالهَوى في الصِبا قَريبٌ مِنَ الرُش
دِ وَلَيسَ القَريبُ مِثلَ البَعيدِ

4. Perchance I was a suitor of sweet maids
And coveted them all, both dark and bright

٤. رُبَّما كُنتُ لِلأَوانِسِ زيراً
مُستَهاماً بِكُلِّ بَيضاءَ رودِ

5. How much pure honey and sweet wine I quaffed
And both of us are victims of wood aloes

٥. كَم جَمَعتُ الرَحيقَ وَالريقَ مِنها
وَكِلانا قَتيلُ صَنجِ وُعودِ

6. And both of us the zephyr had imbued
With fragrance - Eisa son of Khalid son of Walid

٦. وَكِلانا قَد أَحدَثَ الراحُ فيهِ
زَهوَ عيسى اِبنِ خالِدِ اِبنِ الوَليدِ

7. A horseman who surpasses horsemen, when
The mountains of iron clash in fight, smites with the sword

٧. فارِسٌ يَضرِبُ الفَوارِسَ بِالسَي
فِ إِذا ما اِتَقَت جِبالُ الحَديدِ
