1. O you who reproach, you are never satisfied
Sleep well, for I will not feed sorrow

2. Indeed your love has caused me such anguish
That robbed me of sleep and rest completely

3. My eyes shed ceaseless tears of grief
While my heart is consumed with incurable pain

4. O you of little fairness, how much you demanded
Fulfilling a promise you never intended to keep

5. Then grant me your affection, if it was a debt
And pledge your love, if it was a loan

6. My heart clung to Abi Shadid
With languid, weary eyes that ache

7. His love made me reveal
Some of it, and conceal the rest from others

8. I cannot forget when he approached nearby
Swaying gently like a tender branch

9. My apologies to him until he is appeased
And overlooks some of the wrongs I have done

10. And my kissing his rosy cheeks again and again
At times, at others, here and there continuously

11. O you who sought rainclouds
And wore out horses to obtain the treasure

12. Return to the Imam's courtyard and you will find
Provisions for all seekers far and wide

13. For there lies abundant generosity
For those who seek true bounty and grace

14. He is fairer than the clouds and more faithful
Than flashes of polished swords that smite

15. He established the kingdom with integrity
So the true Islam in it remains intact

16. He desires goodness in word and deed
And obeys God in expansion and restraint

17. And when the heat of war intensifies
And the only choice is to take a stand and fight

18. And you see the steeds beneath the clashing swords
Rise up with the horsemen for the charge

19. They overwhelm the armored foes with blows
That disciplined horses and make warriors flinch

20. God has graced Ja'far with virtues
That made people love him without exception

21. O Cousin of the Prophet, in truth, O most noble
Of Quraysh in selfhood, religion and honor

22. You attained superiority and sublimity
And so you became the heavens and people the earth

23. And I see glory amongst those who know you
Hope in you, and resolve from you that fulfills.
