1. The people of al-Hayy are about to part
So passion will fade or love turn to fleeting infatuation

2. But in al-Naqaa are charming maidens
Whose soft branches bend over al-Naqaa

3. Perhaps you will dispel a longing when
You do not find in passion anyone enamored of you

4. Arya of the winds came to it from Rayya's side
On the light breeze of breeze in the night gently yearning

5. She came near then drew closer in estrangement so when
Tomorrow comes the longed-for union will recede and disintegrate

6. Perfection is gathered in her to the utmost extent
And grace overflowed in her until it was abundant

7. Whenever you remember her—no rather whenever—
You weep and make the caged doves weep

8. Your streaming tears have honored you wherever
After separation you encounter a stream

9. A specter roamed until it attained lofty cypresses
Pulling the night until it was torn to shreds

10. On the day of estrangement he returned to Asuan after
We had knocked at a door of yearning, closed

11. Our lances in Darghnun did not fall short
So that the specter might return angry and enraged

12. Dark-eyed and wronged, though weakly so
By the worrying imagination's fantasy

13. There will be no union until the war concludes its affair
With either separation or remainder of age and so we meet

14. He is none but Yusuf son of Muhammad
And his enemies, death to the west and east

15. His rival continually cloud-raining generosity—he
Became dissolute over al-Natluq and so collapsed

16. He weakened his disputation with al-Qabaziqayn
And for a month thundered with al-Ubiyaq and flashed lightning

17. He set aflame what was between the roads
When they met at the juncture of the two seas splitting

18. When a cloud splits on both his sides
Toward a land that had been copiously flowing blood

19. The new, cold winds of autumn we donned
Did not turn away until we stripped it bare

20. And two badrs we cleaned them after a third
We had finished it off completely so it was crushed

21. I did not see horses like them remain on the road
Nor anyone like us more compassionate and concerned

22. Perfection is naught but seeing them raiding
Pulling the morn's tent rope until it shone

23. How many great ones has their assault seized
Who went to sleep rich and woke up destitute

24. How Joseph's resolve frightened them
Imposing greatness upon them, gathered and separated

25. When they slipped away with their souls from Samlaq
The herald of death repeated Samlaq upon them

26. He contained all below the Gulf and left
No heart beyond the Gulf suspended

27. Little bliss with much he attains
You deem him while triumphant to be defeated

28. He sees raid as pilgrimage, so the lax
Is like one who circumambulates, hovering

29. The night of the invader is not like it
By the auspicious blond temple and parted hair

30. And a guardsman—from where did your heedlessness shoot?
You found for him a feathered arrow toward you

31. If he is generous, generosity is his nature
If he hoards, hoarding is his habit

32. Scenes beyond attributes and beneath them
When the hyperbolic speaker's tongue is unleashed

33. If he says "so much" he says "little"
If he says "to excess" he says "truthful"

34. He built a nobility in the glory of Nabhan and joined
Upon the Islam's wide plain, wall, and trench

35. He braces so meets hands of men feet
Turning away from him and elbows stretched

36. If they villify Mayy then so you may frighten them
You made evident to them a might against them

37. What is upon one who fills the coat of mail valiantly
At ferociousness except to wear the coat patched

38. In each of their forts, high and low
A flame as if the brushwood in it split

39. A conflagration—if al-Nuʿmān on the day of Awra
Saw you igniting he would call you arsonist

40. In your hand the sword with which the sincere
Refused that the creeds be ripped and torn

41. The lands of Islam shone only in its darkness
And gleamed in its shadows and so gleamed

42. When the leaders of men pardoned hypocritically
You were chaste and intended nothing but piety

43. If the envious were equitable one day, contemplated
Your greatness, would it be more fitting in another?

44. You attained its goal though farthest
You picked its fruit though most lofty

45. The road of glory behind you was clear
Though were they to want the deed of greatness unleashed

46. You spend on students rain, bounty,
Downpour, flood, and saliva from your mouth

47. If you say "this is Sunna" you are Hatem
If you say "an incumbent duty" you are truthful

48. We found the deception of the sword with you ample
Though the issue of your munificence with you tight

49. I am none but your first planting
To which you dispensed the water of favor and so flourished

50. I placed all my hopes in you
Your view in holding back them successful
