1. A brother of mine from the horsemen of Persia whose hands
Fulfilled the great needs of my crisis and my wants
١. أَخٌ لي مِن سَراةِ الفُرسِ قَضَّت
يَداهُ عُظمَ مَأرُبَتي وَحاجي
2. His sweet, clear sea has sufficed me
The roses of the roads and paths of high sand dunes
٢. كَفاني بَحرُهُ العَذبُ المُصَفّى
وُرودَ شَرائِعِ الطَرقِ الأُجاجِ
3. And As-Sadaqi is not in what we seek
Of the difficult ascent, coarse remedies
٣. وَما الصَدَقِيُّ فيما نَبتَغيهِ
بِصَعبِ المُرتَقى مَرِسِ العِلاجِ
4. I milked praise for him, so he came generously
A clear messenger, gentle in temperament
٤. حَلَبتُ لَهُ الثَناءَ فَجاءَ عَفواً
جَلِيَّ الرِسلِ مَعسولَ المِزاجِ
5. Rhymes more beautiful than the goodness
Of stars lit by time in the night
٥. قَوافِيَ كَالسَلامِ تَفوقُ حُسناً
نُجومَ اللَيلِ توقِدُها الدَياجي
6. And the greatest scheme and obvious loss
Is pearls cast down that are sent in glass
٦. وَأَعظَمُ خُطَّةٍ وَمُبينُ غَبنٍ
سُموطُ الدُرِّ تُهدى بِالزُجاجِ
