1. I have a beloved who has been very aloof in estrangement,
And has renewed his indifference and shown it plainly.

2. He is a master of arts, showing you every day
Some new mark of his disdain.

3. He refuses gently and grants favor,
He draws near in affection and distances in disdain.

4. I go to bed satisfied and wake up angry,
I fall asleep his friend and wake up his slave.

5. And I ransom myself, in any state,
Defending, if he would touch Beauty, an enemy.

6. He passed me by aloof, so I hoped for union,
And I greeted with peace, but he turned away.

7. He inclined his cheek to me, over a branched tree,
And I kissed narcissi and roses.

8. My lord, I have not wronged you intentionally,
So I should be punished for it, nor betrayed a pact.

9. Tears run down my eyes, no fake tears,
And my breasts inherit from no feigned grief.

10. Do you think I would substitute for you, after living together, a substitute,
And find, apart from you, a replacement?

11. God forbid! You are the most pleasant company
And finest figure and straightest stature.

12. God created Ja'far, righteous in worldly affairs
And righteous in religion, excellently guided.

13. The noblest of men in nature, the most perfect of men in character,
And the most generous of men in hospitality.

14. A king whose determination strengthened the kingdom,
So it became for him a source of aid.

15. Justice appeared and by it the land was illuminated,
And the country spread, plateau and plain.

16. It told of bounty, rather it excelled over bounty
With a hand over the open desert flexing.

17. He is the sea of generosity and favor, so draw near him
And increase, by poverty, remoteness.

18. O jewel of the world in giving and bestowing,
And beauty of the world in brilliance and glory,

19. And resemble of the Prophet in ethics and behavior,
And descendant of the Prophet in lineage, indeed!

20. Through you we hope for the nights' forgiveness, and we
Appeal, for our time's misdeeds, to be redressed.

21. So live out the age of time, until we repay
The gratitude for your favor, which cannot be repaid.
