1. With the wicked one-eyed I was misled
My hopes betrayed, and tyranny’s yoke instead

2. Lost in error I, seeking my own needs
Prayed for the aid of Mas'ud, that cur of breeds

3. My eyes yet smart with pains that will not quit
Two filthy knaves, they revel in their pits

4. And when I count the faults of Timas out
My words, my breath find not their way about

5. I draw near and stop short of his full extent
From that cursed one, far distant is my bent

6. Would that Abu Faraj borrow my rhymes
Or we restore them to the Abbas' times

7. A moon shone out, dispelling gloom full bright
Lighting our path, a waxing orb of light

8. Not forgetting what came before me then
For friendship's hand I'll never grasp again

9. Their opposites we become, and I'll not find
With curs the deeds of men to please my mind
