1. A specter pained me, so I bid it hail
At the sight, though it did my senses curtail

2. It strode over the sands walking proudly erect
Between its deepest valleys and mountains unchecked

3. It wandered the expanse from side to side
Until it found what its heart did decide

4. It disobeyed its dissenters and persisted ahead
A teardrop, in making its joyous one glad, it shed

5. It poured with its rain of sickness and discontent
Both its downpour and my own lament

6. Though I told my heart if it would obey
To forget that beauty uniquely on display

7. To forget the love that deeper grew
Of soft cheeks white and eyelids black of hue

8. Like a dune through accumulation it did mound
Like a staff through bending it was bound

9. You will compose poetry whose rhymes hurry along
Between their finest and most scattered song

10. To relay the beauty of its fairest themes
And of its lands in purpose and dreams

11. Al-Mu'tadid and kings of foreign tongues
Are humbled by its ascendant spear that plunges

12. And the rising above the noblest stars
Filling the space its wounds and resting place mark

13. Our highest hopes and greatest armament
For the nearest and farthest of what we want

14. We will reclaim the greatest boon profuse
From His gift and the hand white to diffuse

15. If people betray, we live on as He endows
Or people resent, we remain as He allows

16. When men were tested by what did impend
His hands poured forth and in protection did spend

17. We thank not but the day of His bestowal
In us, and expect none but the morrow He holds

18. It shines in the wake of kindness elated
Like the full moon that came at its fated

19. Whenever I seek from Him a hoped goal
I find the source of my matter before its shoal

20. O You who destines all creatures their roles
Upon the excellent precedents You extol

21. You are the Benevolent, You began by giving
Your word, and every benevolent one keeps living

22. For David's son there is a wish You see
That unless You like it and absolve its complexity
