1. Most promises are forms without substance,
And departure succeeds arrival.

2. After distance of separation comes nearness,
And after souls' complaints comes submission.

3. If events could be reversed from what they took,
Prosperity would return and loss diminish.

4. I wish that beloved would bring us together,
Be it union without wealth that is achieved.

5. I swear I'll not be tempted by alluring hopes,
Nor dazzled by images that mislead.

6. I've a cousin - when I take his hand in mine,
I say to strife “No more! Do not persist.”

7. He augments what Ka’b and Harith left behind -
Estates of ‘Uqromah and Aqyal.

8. An eternal abode of glorious descent is his,
With a view over both the Shariyah and Shara.

9. May God reward with goodness Abu Hasan!
He shoulders the weight of heavy burdens.

10. More fragrant than spice-land is his clan,
He excels the distinguished in his merit.

11. The land, were it not for wrongs, would be one,
And people, were it not for deeds, the same.
