1. I say to him, though he blames me unjustly
Returning to me a principle from which he deviated
١. أَقولُ لَهُ وَقَد أَغرى بِلَومي
يَكُرُّ بِمَبدَإٍ مِنّي مُعادِ
2. I have filled my hands with the world's bitterness over and over
Yet the ignoble did not covet my moderation
٢. مَلَأتُ يَدي مِنَ الدُنيا مِراراً
فَما طَمِعَ العَواذِلُ في اِقتِصادي
3. No obligatory alms were ever due on my wealth
Does obligatory alms apply to the generous?
٣. وَما وَجَبَت عَلَيَّ زَكاةُ مالٍ
وَهَل تَجِبُ الزَكاةُ عَلى جَوادِ
