1. You have not reached the truth, nor been fair,
An eye that saw clearly but did not shed a tear,

2. I do not burden myself for an hour to pass
That time brings and I did not burden myself,

3. Do not leave the intestines except for it
The blazing guts of the shriveled,

4. The essence of youth is lost in its glance
Lost in the shallow coffeehouse,

5. My elixir is the wide open wind, so yours is the life you choose,
I swear by God, and if not for the doubt

6. That comes from you I would not have sworn,
I accept a pledge from a betraying trustee

7. And not from one who promises but does not fulfill,
When men’s generosity is clouded,

8. Move towards the noblest, and the most noble,
Repel the accidents of time with the likes of my father Galib,

9. Or seek reconciliation,
He pleased al-Mu'tamid the Buyer,

10. With a share, and the conniving profiteer,
Moderation is his way but if

11. He gives freely he exceeds,
If people gathered for Okromah

12. And none were there I would not be content,
In an event with time in which I did not disgrace

13. Or weaken against its injury to me,
I was not the abased begging from it

14. Nor the insistent asker,
Another hosted him, so he transgressed,

15. My aides or those standing in my position,
Relying on what came to him

16. And what came to me in biased injustice,
Increasing from all of me to all of him

17. Confirming the heaviness of the backseat rider,
How often did a hand raise my state to his

18. Whenever it falls short, it destroys,
You were rewarded when their transgressor was treacherous

19. The reward of righteousness is loyal with us,
I sang to you many examples

20. From your possession of desire and luxury,
And here the priority of one state over

21. Another so take to pardon or give relief,
With you is virtue so prepare a distribution

22. That returns in the contract and in the fold,
Make it provision for the needy

23. Or a loan, debt for the borrower,
Come let us bring together our states

24. To equality between us, fair,
The states cannot match unless

25. There is a retort from the stronger to the weaker.
