1. How much yearning for you has overwhelmed me
And tears from my eyes poured over you

2. While you are occupied with evil intentions
Making light of tormenting me

3. Far apart are the tears of the bereaved
A lover's passion and the aloofness of the beloved

4. And separation continues to seek
Vengeance among lovers demanded

5. I swear by the nearness after the distance
And the holding back of censure after reproach

6. That Abu Ja'far's hands reached me
With gifts from his generosity bestowed

7. Pure is his word, no pretense with us
Nor is his deed disgraced

8. His hands excel in every lofty aspect
Of fresh, glistening dew

9. I have no base motive with him nor
Is my face from his face concealed

10. O son of Nahik, amazing novelty
While time brings on wonders

11. The least wealthy of your brothers, yet rich
And the most plentiful water unsipped

12. I have no vain hope in you nor
False assumption of its success

13. Nor do I accept what you tried furtively
To impose on me yesterday slyly

14. I have an enduring hope of
Anticipation from your generosity tied

15. And an ambition that continues to hover
Around a pillar at your threshold erected

16. How could you push me to the uttermost despair
Beyond Joseph the son of Jacob

17. He who prevents me from despair of his stinginess
And who expands with the goods of generosity

18. I am not fooled by false pretenses
Nor misled by vain hopes

19. Nor for the likes of me is there acceptance of words from you
For words of glory are not to be accounted for

20. Either bounty bringing you close to my praise
Or apology sufficient to reproach me
