1. O clan of Uthman, you are wealthy,
Yet you are a rabble, while Qais is a rabble.
١. بَني عُثمانَ أَنتُم في غِنِيٍّ
رَعاعٌ وَهيَ في قَيسٍ رَعاعُ
2. When will your courtyard be watered,
And your water sold there?
٢. مَتى يُقرى السَديفُ بِساحَتَيكُم
وَمُرُّ الماءِ عِندَكُم يُباعُ
3. And your miser is nicknamed generous,
While the coward among you is called brave.
٣. وَإِنَّ بَخيلَكُم بِالجودِ يُكنى
سَفاهاً وَاِسمُ صِفرِدِكُم شُجاعُ
4. Is it by names and titles among you,
That glory and noble lineage are attained?
٤. أَبِالأَسماءِ وَالأَلقابِ فيكُم
يُنالُ المَجدُ وَالشَرَفُ اليَفاعُ
5. After your servant you were pure white,
Where foxes roamed freely.
٥. وَكُنتُم بَعدَ عَبدِكُمُ نَظيفٍ
رَبيضاً أُطلِقَت فيهِ السِباعُ
6. What Sulaim did to you grieves me,
Though war is ugly and dreadful.
٦. يَعِزُّ عَلَيَّ ماصَنَعَت سُلَيمٌ
بِكُم وَالحَربُ فاحِشَةٌ شَناعُ
7. Abandoning home - no lamp lit,
A place for neither guest nor empty.
٧. وَتَخلِيَةُ الدِيارِ فَلا سَروجٌ
مَحَلٌّ لِلقَويمِ وَلا الفِراغُ
8. And forsaking the tribes when they sought
Your home, while Hudhail rushed.
٨. وَخِذلانُ العَشائِرِ حَيثُ أَمَّت
هَوازِنُ دارَكُم وَهُمُ سِراعُ
9. They slaughtered you excessively, wrongfully,
At Uqaybah, when the suckling child was hated.
٩. وَقَد ذَبَحوكُمُ سَرَفاً وَبَغياً
بِتَلِّ عُقَيبَ إِذ كُرِهَ المِصاعُ
10. The Banu Abs did not support you,
Nor did Fazarah say "Have mercy!"
١٠. فَما حامَت بَنو عَبسٍ عَلَيكُم
وَلا قالَت فَزارَةُ لاتُراعوا
