1. Unjust in judgment, though able to be fair,
He took my sleep and granted me wakefulness.

2. He was absent from the love in which I pine,
And he was the visitor, had he but attended.

3. My soul and my desires are both astray.
A lord turns from me, blocks me off.

4. He's changed from some of what I was wont to find in him
And makes me other than I was accustomed to.

5. How can love stay hidden after what arose -
A slanderer stood up, sat down to blame us!

6. I'll not forget my night with him, when
The eyes of a miserly one fulfilled what they had promised.

7. Hand pressed on hand between us
And we embraced, cheek met cheek.

8. We complained of love - its ardour
Filled our insides with a kindled fire.

9. O fleer, who mocks the horseman
Seeking advantage from the unyielding people!

10. Leave people be! Be not deluded by them!
Rely on the deep sea of the empowered Imam.

11. A king who suffices you - his finding
The world and giving what he found.

12. Were his open-handedness to flow
As rain, his liberality would never be exhausted.

13. It's a resolve we recognize in Ja'far -
And its details in him are multitudinous.

14. Our days have dawned during his reign,
And our new nights gained beauty.
