1. If you meet one of my Salmas then call out to her,
The valleys of al-Muzn have quenched you from her water-skin.

2. Does the ardour of a lover not get quenched,
By her, or get watered a thirsty one from her well?

3. I wanted - and is the soul of a person blamed
If she does not bestow favours out of love for him?

4. If my Salma were to veil herself or if
My heart were lent allure from her heart,

5. The slanderers exaggerate about her while between us
Are barriers of Salma and her family's abode.

6. We are envied that passions of love come to us from her
Caravans accustomed to yearning visit her habitually.

7. How they sighed bitterly after being separated,
Their sighs are wondrous and endless.

8. And one night they spent awake for desire of her,
Eyes heavy with sleeplessness.

9. In the morning the rightly guided one went forth and rain followed
His morals or exceeded his number.

10. We praised him - the era of nights has passed
And the faces of days shone for us after their gloom.

11. When hopes in him followed successively,
Gifts poured from the Generous Repeater of gifts.

12. The critics were unable to make amends
For slips of the tongue faster than their occurrence.

13. The caliphate sought him eagerly
With its firmest purpose and reliance.

14. So it did not choose him randomly in the darkness of night,
But selected him after experience.

15. A leader - when he accomplishes affairs they follow successively
Upon his purposefulness and integrity.

16. When will he be successor, inheriting
From one worthy for it, seizing its darkened inheritance?

17. And if he takes up the sword of sharpness, the courage
Of Quraysh in battle and munificence is added to him.

18. A competitor of the self in Godwariness, it left
No limit to his striving and exertion for it.

19. He has a resoluteness - the kingdom did not delay its success,
Nor did Islam blame its kindling of his weapons.

20. When opinions were presented, his preference was evident
And when the opinionated one was evident, it sufficed with his isolation.

21. Rightly-guided in its intent and confident
That Allah sees the preference of Godwariness over habitual practice.

22. The caliphate did not take a trait from him
When it empowered him forcibly over its leadership.

23. Nor did the world incline him when it was elevated
For him, at the extreme of its beauty and massing of people.

24. The prayer rug of the Chief of Worshippers is more beautiful
Than the crown with its gems and kindling.

25. And wool is more worthy of the Imams than the silk garb
Though it beautifies their bodies with dye.

26. You returned the gifts of festivals and you were not
To be tempted - lavishness does not make souls forget what benefits them.

27. You opposed the festivals of the misguided, declaring
Though you would not oppose them but for verifying guidance.

28. And the path of Hajj stood for the partisans that
Inclined towards it both near and far.

29. So you eased, thankfully, the obligation of their Hajj
Though they used to consider Hajj a part of their Jihad.

30. You sufficed the land which Musa and his soldiers' leader treaded
When a faction went astray displaying its darkness.

31. For making trouble in a kingdom it targeted in its darkness,
And if enemies camped in its land

32. Its hated one raided them in their own land.
The people of the West hoped, so gallop with a resolve

33. To Arim when its columns prevented access.
That the clamour of Egypt be silenced and

34. Palestine end its defiance and obstinacy.
How many fiery coals beneath the ashes

35. And embers hidden in their ashes!
The eyes of the people did not notice that,

36. But crops that ripened for their harvest.
Is it anything but a farewell of one bidding farewell

37. Fanning it with horses if he did not turn away from it?
Battalions of Victory from Allah - their weapons most decisive -

38. And the vanguard of Godwariness - their supplies greatest.
Upon them from the loyal horses are knights -

39. Their number only less than the sands of Baṭḥāʾ.
To grieve that they said: a small band of successful ones -

40. The perishing of the defiant and falling of their executioner manifested.
Their horses pursued them with breasts

41. So the protectors of disbelief passed the night felled by their chase.
You remained, O Commander of the Faithful, and your

42. Life expired - the age of time before its expiration.
Still the world has splendour and joy

43. With your kingdom, ever increasing its increase.
I will thank the Bestower for your blessings,

44. Finding my couplets entirely from His bestowal.
