1. I seek refuge in the full moon from parting with my beloved,
And from my anguish after him and my weeping,

2. And from my sorrow over him, the delight of my eyes,
When it is set upon him and occupies my heart,

3. He who is near in abode goes far in estrangement,
And many a near neighbor is not a near kinsman,

4. And his action is like that of my father an-Nujm the refined,
Who grieved for a longing one or gave lodging to a stranger.
