1. A flash lit up the ruby from its glow
Revealing the night from its dark gloom

2. It reminded me of the smiling radiance
When the breaker of vows beamed

3. The lips of a beloved when they shine in their splendor
Bring back the lover to his distress

4. A swaying branch bends the garment over
The weakened flow of the trailing garment

5. Gravity pulls it when it rises behind it
While the light fabric eludes its bonds

6. When it walks its sides are bent
And it sways from its top to its bottom

7. Absence led its state without it, while the
panting of racing steeds quickens their bites

8. I yearn for it from the Iraq’s ruins
Despite the home’s distance while it’s in Syria

9. We loved it in Alawah’s abode
From Batyas and the overlooking summit of its hills

10. A meadow spreading whose springs flow
From the dripping clouds harmoniously woven

11. It excels Aseh and Narcissus in its fertility
Na’aman in its Taleh and in its Peace

12. A loamy soil, and a pleasant hillside
And Muzen’s overflowing water from its crevice

13. Shall I seek the fresh from its springs?
Or visit those who camp in its tents?

14. When will you ask about Thawaba’s sons and inform me
Like the interwoven clouds about their rain?

15. The countries are afflicted when they depart
As the sick are from their illness

16. I swore by God of Majesty and Honor
And those, like me, who were dutiful in their oath

17. By the worshipper and those who circle it
And the sought-after stone and its taker

18. If they are filled with water for it
Then a seeker with his palm or kisser with his mouth

19. That the excellencies took the path to Al-‘Abbas
Until they were counted among his traits

20. Revered, whose humility for its hopefuls
Increases his greatness

21. Other than the disloyal deficient
Or the suspicious deficient in strategy

22. The sword’s anger does not make its edge shine
More than the mishaps of his pen

23. It defends honors striving
The effort of one who defends his money and blood

24. The kingdom did not oppose its two states
Nor did the Sultan’s glory change his generosity

25. It continued for us in its old covenant
And the torrent flows the length of its course

26. He draws near to us in intimacy, while he is
A brother to the star in his remoteness and distance

27. When we see those of his care near him
We feel them to be his kin

28. If we stay in his sanctum we have
The security of a sanctuary in its inviolability

29. God was with him wherever he was
And did not deprive him of His bounty and blessing

30. Our need is for his rule to last
And our plea is to be safe from his absence

31. He has favors upon me and I have hope
That continues in his covenant and responsibilities
