1. It shook my being, though I know not what state it was in,
And it kept me awake, though the mind would not settle,

2. It pulled at my reins, and it stood firm,
While the resolute aspirations head for their goals as hopes,

3. It outran the footsteps of time while ascending
Until it towered high and the whole universe looks up,

4. It caught up with the caravan in the march of progress,
The essence of the word its actions testify,

5. Ask the oceans about its fleet, and ask the deserts
About its horses, if questioning finds a response,

6. And ask Asia about it, if you happen to know it,
And ask Europe, though I know not what state it was in,

7. Ask the West and East about it, and the whole world -
You will find it strutting across history,

8. And ask the revolving cosmos, which carries in its cycles
Signs from it, and these are its deeds,

9. It revived the Galendi, and the Friend with it,
And the inheritor, and the protector - it is reverence,

10. And the helper, and Ibn Sultân, to whom
The earth yielded - so its actions were consequential,

11. And Ahmad ibn Saïd, and the exalted ones who ruled
So they ruled with truth, and the signs are actions,

12. Oman - abode of God's people since early times,
And bastion of glory and the most exalted, a wrap,

13. Oman - it never panicked before any terror,
Nor bent a day, though ills are quaking,

14. It sprang to the Chosen One, voluntarily hastening,
No sword or arms led it to Him,

15. It pulled the fleece of the world when at dawn it saw
The citadels’ madness, reason confused,

16. So how many arrows against its flanks intertwined!
It cut its path through them, while guile crept,

17. O leader of the caravan, O guide of its course,
Take it to its glories, for the light is a torrent,

18. And be for it a spark that guides its vanguard
To the citadels, where triumph and the halo are found,

19. And outline with your strength signs of majesty in it,
That time may read, and the readers - states,

20. And travels with your people, led by youth to
The abodes of glory, where the faith is a chain,

21. And say to them, while existence listens closely,
And their time withered, past, decayed:

22. My sons, O cubs of heroes from Yemen
And from Nizar, when heroes are counted,

23. You inherited true glory, my sons,
While you are above the brow of the starry dome,

24. So bless the steps of endeavor among you,
For each of your forebears was valiant, sacrificing,

25. Faith took root in their moral beings, so it flowed
Like a bountiful rain, curing strayings in the world,

26. So pride yourselves before the world’s nations, forever,
If one priding himself on virtues takes pride,

27. Or people pride themselves on boons of plenty -
For your pride is in giving and humbling,

28. Or time prides itself in caprice and vileness -
For your pride is immersing yourselves in truth,

29. So follow the conduct your ancestors had,
Weighty for them on the scale of faith,

30. And shun frivolity in your deeds, for worthless
Are for you deeds and words that mock,

31. And God preserves every gift He granted you,
You inherited it, and by the seal He completed it.
