1. How can I say what I will say
While my heart is intoxicated with love?

2. The mirages have led me astray
And the torrents have cast me into panting.

3. My path was obscured by stumbling steps,
And the gloom of a stranger surrounds it.

4. The clouds flowed pale and far,
And their faint flashes set.

5. On the banks of streams a sacrifice
That the anointed one did not abandon.

6. And scattered ruins humiliated.
The knolls are desolate widows,

7. And echo in the horizon are wounds and howls.
The southern winds have demolished them,

8. And the plains did not help us northwards.
We took refuge behind the dunes until

9. A storm subsided and a murmur calmed.
Perhaps in the distances there was rejoicing,

10. A sword dancing, a flute player and drums.
Or we passed a poet being inspired,

11. While the scars bleed with wounds.
And near us are the bare lands or thorns,

12. A scent or a rising wreath.
This land’s hands are two palms

13. With no showers on its face or rain.
The stars sink in it broken,

14. And its flowers are robes of withering.
Straying and lost, my path holds only

15. “It appeared”...while my fluttering heart is shackled.
The ruins stopped me when they came into view,

16. And I fancied the hills spoke to me:
"O wounded one who spent a woeful age,

17. And the ascent of suspicions is endless sorrow!"
"How do you pass and abandon the virgin oasis?

18. A gazelle...when it owns no meadows!"
"But when we saw you in tears,

19. We cried...for the killer is also the killed."
"So cry for a scattered love like grass

20. Whose necks the smooth blade has severed."
"Walk in darkness and remember;

21. The companion of light carries what is supported."
"Adorn yourself on earth, its length and breadth,

22. For the garment of the messenger is width and height."
"And forgive, these are expanses of whiteness,

23. And seek revelation...for the horizon is blocked."
I became conscious; the sky is elevated

24. And the earth widely spread with the descent of lights.
We left its ruins...and continued,

25. And the long journey is a twisted path.
A singer chanted in the calm of sorrow

26. And his tearful eyelid watered the traveler.
Did we wake from the shaking of revelation when

27. Cavaliers blew through us and steeds?
Or does a voice ring in my chest:

28. "Stop him...for he is accountable."
The bells asked me: “Do you have a path,

29. Guide, exit and entrance?”
And when the enamored gasp in yearning,

30. Due to intense absence...the messenger came.
The hearts that left them confused and mindless

31. Blinded before him.
And the lives of people passed in sacrilege...

32. And generations and descendants perished.
Eyes looked up asking the sky

33. How can it be saved? Its deliverance and path?
And it showed me hosted by the prophet

34. With the endless horizon upon my sight.
His lights shone upon me, and the sun rose

35. From a face...and its breeze is fragrant.
No questions, for that is Mount Kab’s riders,

36. And those who seek the beloved are swift.
The passionate lover bewildered in absence

37. May be pitied, and the rejected boy.
So he went seeking splendor with words;

38. For forgiveness is only accepted from Him.
And poetry flowed like clear rain,

39. And with poetry every state changes.
He wore the beloved's cloak beautifully,

40. And the stature of the ode in it is beautiful.
So wait O Kab, I am with Him

41. While my heart is intoxicated with love...
I am with the One whose equal in glory

42. Is a rose, a scythe and a palm tree.
The opposites do not live except through Him-

43. A bitter food or a meal consumed.
The forest of existence has poured gardens

44. And the howling wolves have bonded with it.
O prophet of eras, my excuse is that

45. My fluttering is burdened and my words are shy.
Upon my chest are salutations to Mary

46. And the virgin illuminates my forehead.
The Family of the Prophet are a fountain of light

47. Whose spirits are Euphrates and Nile.
I came while Jerusalem is a star on my forehead,

48. I came while the wound is where the Messenger ascended.
So the only path is Badr's ascension;

49. It is my Jerusalem...and the rest are superfluities.
He passed...and lightning is a flash from his hands,

50. He flew...and thunder is baffled and awed.
Then he prayed with the prophets as imam,

51. It is Jerusalem, his home and descent.
And if he returns the domes are sunrises

52. And the lasting spring in it is seasons.
And if Quraysh denied a gazelle

53. That roamed in the soul, his languid glance blinked.
The rose of fire in my blood is pride

54. And the lamps in my veins flow.
I came while Jerusalem is a star on my forehead,

55. I came while the wound is where the Messenger ascended.
So the only path is Badr's ascension;

56. It is my Jerusalem...and the rest are superfluities.
