That you may attain safety,

8. And you see me annihilated among the nearer ones,
Yearning for the nearer ones.

9. The cupbearer of wine has made me drink his filling,
Before the existence of time.

10. You know who dictates my ecstasy,
Most eloquent respondent.

11. O my life, you are within my essence,
Ever present, never absent.

12. I am the one who has shed the garment from my essence,
And the imam of the seventy,

13. And my beloved in his essence
Has attained the collection of arts.

14. And for this my aspirations called me,
My comfort is in death.

15. You have made me the guardian of my essence,
While you were the guardian.

16. O my life, you are within my essence,
Ever present, never absent.

17. I am from the spring of my masters' nobility,
I attained the highest rank.

18. And according to the extent of my ambition's height,
I strive in seeking.

19. Until I spent all my time
In singing and joy,

20. And I heard the address from my essence,
From a near place.

21. O my beloved, you are within my essence,
Ever present, never absent.
