1. Leave behind the preoccupations of this world and its adornments,
And know that you are departing from it a traveler.

2. Its prosperity does not last, its reverses do not persist,
One day joy, and years in peril.

3. Deceit in it remains with every failure,
And its words to the wise seem evident.

4. The baseness of the soul plunges into its battles,
When one is immersed in its confusion a traveler.

5. The needles of the evil of sins wound,
And death guides us in our lives a guide.

6. The germs of evil lie dormant in the organs,
And their deeds vary between deficient and excessive.

7. The riddles of the ills of souls have become subtle,
So be diligent in treating and resolving them.

8. The duty of the righteous is always to reform them
With motives of diligence and effort.

9. Their determination remained, they wanted to free themselves
From all that leaves the pure mind clear.
