1. Between the two palaces the moon appeared
Dazzling people with its beauty
١. بَينَ القَصرَينِ بَدا قَمَرُ
بِمَحاسِنِهِ فُتنَ البَشَرُ
2. It is attributed to the Turks, and has left
My heart stirred by its eyes
٢. يُعزى للتُركِ وَقَد تَرَكَت
عَيناهُ فُؤاديَ يَستَعِرُ
3. Eyes of a fawn that were adorned
With kohl that captivates or houris
٣. عَينا رَشأٍ قَد زانَهُما
غَنَجٌ يَسبيكَ أَو الحَوَرُ
4. He walks with robes flowing
Yet has a heart of unfeeling stone
٤. يَمشِي فَتَلِينُ مَعاطِفُهُ
وَلَه قَلب قاسٍحَجَرُ
5. My eyes beheld his beauty
And love stirred by the sight
٥. نَظَرَت عَينايَ مَحاسِنَهُ
وَالحُبُّ يُهَيِّجُهُ النَظَرُ
6. So his love crept into my heart
With the heart its advocate being sight
٦. فَسرَت لِلقَلبِ مَحَبَّتُهُ
وَالقَلبُ وَساطَتُهُ البَصَرُ
7. My heart and glance both took part
So for this thought and for that wakefulness
٧. قَلبي وَالطَرفُ قَد اِشتَرَكا
فَلِذا فِكرٌ وَلِذا سَهَرُ
8. O prince of beauty, does anyone else
Bow to your beauty except as subjects?
٨. أَأَميرَ الحُسنِ وَهَل أَحدٌ
إِلّا لِجمالِكَ يَأَتَمِرُ
9. Do you know that I suffer
From love of you, having no patience?
٩. أَتُرى تَدرِي أَنّي كَلَفٌ
مِن حُبِّكَ ما لي مُصطَبَرُ
10. Yet about solace I asked, so will
You mourn for your lover, O moon?
١٠. وَعَن السُلوانِ سَلَوتُ فَهَل
تَرثي لِمُحِبِّكَ يا قَمَرُ
