1. I have ardently fallen in love with the gentle sway
Of his rare beauty and peerless grace.

2. My soul clung not to worldly affairs, though they be
Splendid, but to one with gravity and composure.

3. My love began with Muhammad,
So too shall it end with Muhammad.

4. With dark eyes I'm smitten, what passion have they sparked
Yearning for their sweet gaze I'm filled, my heart kindled.

5. I've tied him, proud and hard to tame,
Lofty aspirations, refined and austere.

6. Kind in conversation at times,
Stingy with kisses and touches of the hand.

7. I pulled him close one day and he shied away
Like a gazelle sighting a hunter lying in wait.

8. I coaxed him gently until he softened, not knowing
That worldly matters cannot be decided in haste.

9. I want of him what he desires, it's enough
That he occupy my heart with joy made new.

10. To see his moon-like face appear to me
And hear his melodious voice like pearls threaded.

11. And my beloved knows I'll never abandon
His love, even if I am called a heretic.

12. I share with him my brimming eyes’ conversation
And receive from him a sun that brings blissful fortune.

13. I pluck from his manners flowers in full bloom
And smell roses on cheeks with a flush saturated.

14. And now I must bid him farewell and depart
Oh how I wonder, will I ever enjoy his company again?
