1. I asked him for a kiss, so he was generous
Then he turned his cheek and refused
١. سألته قُبْلةً فجادا
ثم لوى خدّه وحادا
2. He said, "I fear the envious
And avoid the sharp, jealous eyes
٢. وقال أَخشى من الأعادي
وأَتقي الأعْيُن الحِدادَا
3. For my cheek is stained
With the blemishes of blame and censure
٣. لأنّ خَدِّي من مُدَام
يكتُب فيها الِلئام صادا
