1. A rose lent its cheeks by the beauties,
And musk gifted it the breaths of its extraction.
١. ووردٍ أعارته الغواني خدودَها
وأهدى إليه المسكُ أنفاسَ مَفْتوقِهْ
2. As if the dew in it, a lover's tears
Were shed at dawn during the beloved's separation.
٢. كأنّ الندى فيه مدامعُ عاشقٍ
أريقت غداةَ البينِ في خدّ معشوقِهْ
3. Surrounded by narcissuses of the meadow,
Its whiteness transcended over its creation.
٣. يحف به من تَوْءم الروض نرجِس
تناهَى سنا مُبْيضِّهِ فوق تَخْليقه
4. Seeing the rose blossoming, it fell in love,
Bowed down astonished, and rose on its stalk.
٤. رأى الوردَ غضَّاً فاستهامَ بحبّه
وأطرقَ مبهوتاً وقام على سوقِه
5. We passed around cups of wine by its sides,
For the beauty of its reflection and fineness of its growth.
٥. أَدَرْنا كؤوس الراح في جَنباته
على حسنِ مرآه ورِقّة تورِيقِه
6. The languid-eyed stood with promise abundantly,
Skilled in conversation and jesting.
٦. وقام علِيلُ الطرفِ والوعدِ مُتْرَفٌ
عليمٌ بتصريف الكلامِ وتشقِيقِه
7. He crowned his right with a cup of drink
And clasped his left palm with his ewer.
٧. فتوّجَ يُمناه بكأسٍ رَوِيّةٍ
وقَرّط يُسْرى راحتيه بإبرِيقِه
8. He poured and served a wine as if
It sets his cheeks aflame and the fruit's sipping is sweet.
٨. وصَبَّ وسقّاني مداماً كأنّها
تَلَهُّبُ خَدَّيْهِ وطيبُ جَنَى رِيقِه
9. He conversed with me through a speech as if
He picked from the garden's harvest a flower arranging.
٩. وبات يُعاطِيني حدِيثاً كأَنّما
جَنَى من جَنى الرّوضِ زَهْرَةَ تَنْمِيقه
10. A speech lined with threats, though it
Was gentle to me while death is the stuffing of our separation.
١٠. حدِيثاً حَشاه بالوعيدِ وإِنه
لَيَعْذُب لِي والموتُ حَشْوُ تفارِيقِه
