1. O you who passed the night oppressively at the riverside,
And rolled in our narrow paths,

2. From Al Mukhtar to the bridge,
The full moon rose to face you,

3. So you put out the full moon’s light,
Dawn shone from your face during the night without dawn,

4. On your cheeks is that which surpasses metaphor with wine,
And your words perfumed to the extent of scenting the sea,

5. Your glances weakened me until I went not knowing,
Whether it was sickness amid your eyelids or kohl of sorcery,

6. You gave me your cup mixed with the lips,
Until I was satiated and lay inebriated,

7. We spent the night in our proximity, closer than estrangement,
Like the fasting person who fulfilled the night of Eid,

8. Without sin, immorality, obscenity or denial,
When dawn rose you hid the dawn with poetry,

9. Clouds shaded us,
Like fresh lilies,

10. With rhymed joy,
And prose of rainfall,

11. The air was good until it was scented with your perfume,
Had I not feared for your body that bruising would occur,

12. I would have left marks of nuzzling on the breast,
As I leave my name branded by time’s hand,

13. I am the one seen with comprehension and known for news,
I am the one heard for virtue and attributed in poetry,

14. I am the one whose command is praised and effect deemed good,
I am the prominent whose prominence the most prominent vaunt,

15. I am the sword which inflicts,
I am the rain which sustains,

16. I am the dawn, I am the sun,
I am the moon which moves,

17. I am the one hoped for in hardship,
I am the one hoped for in ease,

18. I am the son of the eminent constellation,
I am the son of the brilliant stars,

19. I am the son of revelation, wisdom,
The Criterion and the Reminder,

20. I am the son of the House, the Hill,
The Sanctuary and the Stone,

21. I am the son of the highest nobility,
I am the attainer of totality,

22. I am the sender of blessings,
I am the dispeller of harm,

23. I am the sunderer of schism,
I am the breaker of the back,

24. I am the pourer of glory,
I am the mender of breaks,

25. I am the insightful of opinion,
I am the venerable hearer,

26. I am the striker with blades,
I am the piercer with spearheads,

27. I am the seer of the earth’s mountains and the knower of history,
I am the forbearing unifier,

28. I am the wise gatherer,
I am the terrifier of jinn,

29. I am the traverser of the desert,
I am the assembler of armies,

30. I am the spacious of chest,
So ask about my nobility, generosity,

31. And ask about my benevolence, give good tidings.
