1. A delicate, refined damsel
Whose cheek is darkened yet wronged

2. Like the rising moon, but in her beauty
She's like a solitary, precious pearl

3. The full moon is her night, and in her braids
A branch with two ripe pomegranates for breasts

4. A smile flashes like lightning, like pearls
Arranged sweeter than honey

5. We slept together beneath the shadows of night
On a bed of flowers and pillows

6. I plucked the fruits of wine from her laughing mouth
From lips like rose petals

7. As if I were a mighty lion and she
A gentle gazelle in the cold

8. She keeps her passions from me
As I conceal mine from her

9. She hides and reveals her love for me
As I hide and reveal my love

10. If she draws nearer, I grow colder
Increasing my aloofness from her affection

11. In beauty, none can match her
As in love, none can match me

12. Still inhabited is Al-Jizah
By every gazelle with delicate breast

13. How sweet is life there with one
Who bestowed honor upon the noble religion

14. Glory is a sword to the glorious
A most wondrous sword to glory

15. As if his tranquility were a balance
Flashing without lightning or thunder

16. As if his sound judgements
Were drawn from Indian steel

17. The king is bound by covenant
Yet in his time, he binds covenants

18. No sword is keener than his resolve
When drawn from the sheath of resolve

19. O moon whose ancestor was
Muhammad, most honored of ancestors

20. I've fallen short in praising you
Yet I persist in praise as I'm able

21. If you'll forgive me, what bounty!
My efforts fall short of praising it
