1. The blush of the cheeks is more gentle than
The roses of gardens and more sublime
١. وردُ الخدود أرقُّ مِنْ
وَرْدِ الرِّياض وأَنعَمُ
2. One is split by kisses while the other
Is embraced by the mouth at the time
٢. هذا تَنَشَّقُه الأُنو
فُ وذا يُقبِّلُه الفَمُ
3. And if you were to choose between the two
The best rose is one that kisses the limb
٣. وإذا عَدَلْت فأفضلُ ال
وَرْدَين وردٌ يُلثَم
4. No rose but the one that borrows
Its crimson dye from blood's dyeing stream
٤. لا وردَ إلاّ ما تَوَلْ
لَى صَبْغ حُمرتهِ الدّمُ
5. One is smelled but not gathered
The other gathered and inhaled as a gem
٥. هذا يُشَمُّ ولا يُضَمْ
مُ وذا يُضَمّ وَيشمَمُ
6. Glory to Him who created cheeks
As daisies that one gently breathes in
٦. سبحان من خلق الخُدو
دَ شَقائقاً تُتنسّمُ
7. And lent them cheeks so that with it
A mark, a beauty spot, is made manifest
٧. وأعارَها الأَصداغُ فه
يَ بها شقيقٌ مُعلَم
8. And gave life to eyelids so with a glance
They speak without making a sound
٨. واستنطِق الأجفانَ فه
يَ بلحظِها تتكلّم
9. And show the beloved the secret
Of the lover so he understands
٩. وتُبِين للمحبوب عن
سِرِّ المُحبّ فَيفهمُ
10. And hint if they see remoteness
With a glance, so greetings are sent
١٠. وتشير إنْ رأت الرَّقي
بَ بلَحْظها فتُسلِّم
11. And lent them an illness with which
Hearts are healed or made sick
١١. وأعارَها مَرَضاً تَصِحْ
ح به القلُوبُ وتُسقَمُ
12. Eyes' temptations are greater than
Cheeks' temptations and supreme
١٢. فِتَنُ العيون أَجلُّ مِنْ
فتن الخدود وأَعظَمُ
