1. The morn is surely better than the eve
As the bright daylight proves this belief

2. When the day smiles with eyes blue and brown
Like the differing hues of a jewel's sheen

3. And when darkness falls it sinks from sight
Like flowers closing in fear of being seen

4. Rebuff is the gloom and its sword-blade stern
Acceptance, the sunny day's light serene

5. Drink then, by the dawn, twice dawn's draught
And the rose-cheeked morning's potion pure
