1. The rain has revived you from a neglected abode,
And every wanderer has taken shelter in you,

2. After your inhabitants have left you to the nights,
Singing your praises while you are deserted.

3. Misfortunes have estranged you from them,
And the departure of dwellers is the death of homes.

4. So quench it with tears, for the rain has been stingy,
With constant downpours upon it.

5. Tears have no excuse for being late,
Since the audacious caller has summoned them in it.

6. O haunts of yearning, you have become remnants
Trod upon by flags and stones.

7. After you were accustomed to glory and delight,
And a spectacle for onlookers' eyes.

8. Thus time alternates between prosperity and decline,
And between attending and turning away.

9. A Khonouf, a stray she-camel, a lone Ontaris,
An Aysajoore, a Shimellah, a Misear.

10. It joins Al-Wakhd with Ath-Thameel when
The likes of it betray the travelers.

11. Of the daughters of Al-Jadeel, and it is
One of the swift-footed birds.

12. It ate the flesh of its companion at night
And the souls' joining at dawn with weeping.

13. It throws down the simple-minded from its towering height
With little consideration, little caution.

14. Far from purpose has the health of my body become
The health of joy, the health of tranquility.

15. Everything lawful upon me is forbidden,
Unless I fulfill my great ambition.

16. O Banu Haashim, we are not equal,
In our lowliness or greatness.

17. If we belong to the same grandfather,
We have preceded you in all merit.

18. Your Abbas is not like my Ali.
Can stars be compared to moons?

19. He who has precedence and leadership in Islam,
While people are the followers of disbelievers.

20. He who has the ties of marriage and solace and aid,
And war casts sparks.

21. He whom the Prophet called his supporter and named
His brother, secretly and openly.

22. He of whom he said "You are to me like Aaron to Moses,"
Honoring him above all carpenters.

23. Then on the Day of Ghadir, as you know,
He especially favored him over all the others.

24. He said "No youth like Ali,
No sword except Dhul-Faqar."

25. And who are you to the Prophet's family?
Ignorant of clear reports!

26. Shall I worship God or Hussein
And his brother, the progeny of the pure?

27. O cousins, you have wronged and deviated
From the path of justice, every swift flier.

28. How can your palms encompass a place
Which your sights did not reach?

29. He who shared the bed, he left in it
Ahmad, while he headed towards Yathrib.

30. Where was Al-'Abbas then, during the Hijrah,
In bed, or in the cave, or in the ditch?

31. Do you have sanctity due to the Prophet's uncle
When there is no privacy between you?

32. We have the sanctity of birth, leadership,
Precedence, guidance, and the beacon.

33. We have the emigration of the early emigrants
And the support of the Helpers.

34. We have fasting, prayers and spending
In our hardship and ease.

35. We are the people of the cloak, and our sixth is the spirit,
The Trustworthy of the Omnipotent, the Compeller.

36. We are the people of piety and solace
From the Household of Ahmad the virtuous.

37. Or blame God for elevating us
Above you, and be angry with fate!

38. Have you made giving water to the pilgrims
Equal to having faith in God, with no hypocrisy?

39. Or have you made Al-'Abbas's call in war,
When he fled from meeting the swords,

40. Like the stance of the successor in the tumult of death,
Striking heads beneath the dust?

41. When the Prophet's companions fled,
And he protected the Prophet when they fled,

42. Ask about the day of Khaybar and ask
Mecca about his attack on the sinners.

43. Ask about the day of Badr who the knight of Islam was
And the seeker of the blades.

44. Ask about every raid of God's Messenger
Who raided each raid.

45. O Banu Haashim, is not Ali
The dispeller of sorrows and great disasters?

46. So by what have you ruled without us
The inheritance of the Prophet's guidance without proof?

47. Is it due to kinship? But we are closer
To the inheritance than you and the place of the banner.

48. Or is it an inheritance you inherited?
But we are the people of relics and perils.

49. Do not cover yourselves with your injustice, clear truth
Which would lead you to complete destruction.

50. And prepare for a battle that fills the land against you
With a formidable army.

51. Under its banners are black lions
That bloody claws.

52. So refrain from the sources of the kingdom.
We are the people of revenue and expenditure.

53. Ours are the glory, loftiness over you,
Endeavors, and the axis of every age.

54. O Banu Fatimah, how long will I call you
With my tongue, my blade, and my victory?

55. Take this from me, an outcome of understanding
Between moderation and excess.

56. It is safe from partisanship and extremism
And free of any evil choice.

57. Clarity appears in it, shining its light
Openly, without concealment.

58. Its arguments, whenever the scholar contemplates them,
Become clear to him like daylight.
