1. By Him besides Whom none doth command,
And Who is the most learned of hidden thoughts,

2. If to conceal misfortunes be distressful,
Yet I find revealing them more bitter and painful.

3. I have refrained from complaining through modesty,
And who would complain of the stings of scorpions but scorpions?

4. I bear everything that brings tears to the eyes,
Though before others my countenance is ever smiling.
