1. I weep for an oppressor to me, unforgiven
His love left me no patience, nor any respite

2. If I find solace from him, my refuge shrinks
And if I worry in a patient, resolute heart

3. He only parts from me with knowledge
That I cannot endure his estrangement

4. By Allah, if not for arrows in his glances
And wine that appears on his slender throat

5. He would not shed my blood unjustly without cause
Nor have power over my benefit and my harm

6. If you prop up the leaning myrtle branch
The palm's weight will surely cause it to break

7. Strange are my eyes that did not shed
Blood over him, and how did my heart not crack

8. Woe to lovers, how strong are their hearts
Against passion, grief, longing and remembrance

9. The moments of absence make me long languidly
And the softness of the beloved's voice and step

10. Every curl on her cheek is beautiful
As if it were from the oryx of Makh and Ushar

11. I do not pretend to not know a disgrace blamed on me
Nor keep secret a betrayal or denial

12. O fate, why is my compensation from you broken
Blind to you, and Kisra irreparable

13. The days of evil have aged, and its days are complete
Heedlessness of old age has afflicted it

14. It has become more helpless than a corpse
More missed than a loss, deafer than chordless lute

15. It was bolder than a lion toward our blessings
And greedier than a she-camel without a mate

16. If not for the Almighty, trusted by God, my soul
Would have had no refuge from it, no burden borne

17. A just Imam, if you seek his comfort, you’ll find
His palms more dewy than the rain

18. O son of the Imams and the rightly guided
Connected to God's elite, people of revelation and surahs

19. Do not exhaust yourself gathering arms
Nor equipment of war, raids, and young camels

20. God’s victory and the sword of fate protects you
From all enemies’ harm

21. When you travel, you remain if others depart
And all whom you are absent from are the ones traveling

22. Necessity was my delay in visiting you
And God has already pardoned whoever was harmed

23. If I had no excuse which you know
I would have come rushing heedless of my sight

24. Affection of the eye does not increase loyalty
And love of the heart is not love of sight

25. I still ponder an idea leading to fatigue
If you knew my concerns and thoughts

26. My love for you is intrinsic, not transient
And my obedience to you is endless, not abbreviated

27. While others' love is gained and pretentious
Not innate like a scar within hair over skin

28. It is enough your enemy, may God curse him,
Can only be seen cautiously

29. With every heart constricted from him
And each heart harder than stone toward him

30. I came to the Caliphate when it called you
As Moses arrived at his appointed time

31. Like the earth, pouring rain made it verdant
Adorning it with gardens and flowers

32. You are no less than the kings of the worlds
Except a spirit from holiness in a body of mankind

33. A subtle light whose essence in you
Transcended the sun and moon's limits

34. A meaning from the First Cause which preceded
The creation of matter and the stretching of the heavens and spheres

35. So through God you are connected to creation
And through them to God you are best suited to lead

36. You are His sign from the progeny of His messengers
And His best choice from Mudhar

37. If you wished, you would not accept the world and its people
As dwelling, and you could be king of the brilliant stars

38. If minds comprehended you fully
They would realize they are helpless and weak toward you

39. Though your person is beyond physical sight
Your deeds have surpassed likeness and conception

40. None in the angels we know compares to you
Fanciful dreams are not like vigilant realities

41. Eyes are named the same and species unites them
But gazelles are not those with kohl and eyes dark as nights

42. O envier who wishes to equal me
In what you possess, wishes of a liar are evil

43. I have not fallen short of sublime so one can reach me
Nor overreached after youth and puberty

44. We all share blood and father
As branches share in fruit

45. So how can he attain my station or rival me
When you are to him as a resolute man is to an effeminate

46. Support your brother, for the people have supported
Their boys, though the victorious name is delayed

47. You remain ease to me, without hardship
And a clear, sweet water source, without bitterness

48. They approached while I was absent, and if I met them
I would have made them drain deep draughts of poison from the goblet

49. You still have power between fluttering banners
On the day of fright with victory

50. My gratitude for your favor is endless
And who is more deserving and worthy of thanks than you?
