1. When I stood before the Imam
His attendants fell back and cleared the way

2. I approached his crown and throne
So this one went higher and that one made way

3. I joked about the coolness of the Prophet's pond
Finding joy in your wading into what is permitted

4. I journeyed and he was awestruck by what he saw
And I spoke, enchanting him with what he heard

5. I praised your brilliant virtues
To the king of the age for what he had wrought

6. You rose like the morning star
Guiding to the sun when it rose

7. And whoever takes on the likes of you
Has taken on more than he can handle
